Your data stays yours

Privacy Policy

Promise was built around a simple principle: the words you record for yourself should remain private.

1. Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how Promise (“Promise,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information when you use the Promise mobile application and this website.

The short version: Promise does not require an account. Your voice recordings, wake promises, alarm schedules, and preferences remain on your device and are not sent to us or RevenueCat. If you use a paid feature, limited purchase and subscription information is processed by Apple and RevenueCat so we can complete the purchase and unlock the feature. We do not sell your information or use it for advertising.

2. Data we handle

Information stored on your device

To provide the app’s features, Promise stores the following locally on your device:

  • Voice recordings you create, including the names you give those recordings.
  • Wake promises, including their titles, times, repeat days, snooze settings, selected recordings, and enabled status.
  • App preferences such as language, appearance, onboarding completion, purchase entitlement status, and whether wake-up check is enabled.
  • Technical identifiers needed to schedule, update, and cancel alarms on your device.

This information is used to operate Promise on your device. Your recordings, recording names, wake promises, and alarm details are not included in the purchase information sent to RevenueCat.

Purchase and subscription information

Promise uses RevenueCat to manage in-app purchases and subscriptions. When the app communicates with RevenueCat, RevenueCat may process:

  • An app user identifier used to associate purchases with this installation. Because Promise does not require an account, this is an automatically generated anonymous identifier rather than your name or email address.
  • Purchase history and subscription details, such as the product purchased, transaction or receipt information supplied by Apple, purchase and renewal dates, expiration status, and the features you are entitled to use.
  • Limited technical information needed to provide and secure the service, such as device type, operating system, locale, currency, and network request information.

We use this information to validate purchases, prevent fraud, unlock paid features, restore purchases, provide purchase support, and understand subscription performance. Apple processes the payment itself. Promise and RevenueCat do not receive your full payment-card or bank-account details from Apple.

Other information we do not collect

Promise does not collect advertising identifiers, precise or coarse location, contacts, health data, or behavioral analytics. We do not use third-party advertising SDKs or track your activity across other companies’ apps and websites.

Website information

This website does not use analytics cookies, advertising cookies, account forms, or tracking pixels. If the hosting provider automatically processes basic request information such as IP address, browser type, or server logs for security and delivery, it retains that information according to its policies.

3. Device permissions

Promise requests only the permissions needed for features you choose to use:

  • Microphone: requested when you choose to record a voice message. Audio is recorded and stored locally on your device.
  • Alarm access: used to schedule reliable alarms at the times you select, including alarms that may appear or sound when the app is not open.
  • Notifications: may be used where required by your platform to deliver wake-up alerts and snooze reminders.

You can change these permissions in your device’s Settings. Disabling a permission may prevent the related feature from working.

4. Services, sharing, and sale of data

We disclose only the limited information needed to the service providers that support the relevant feature:

  • RevenueCat, Inc.: processes purchase, subscription, entitlement, anonymous app user identifier, and limited technical information on our behalf. You can read RevenueCat’s Privacy Policy.
  • Apple: operates the App Store, processes payments, and provides transaction and receipt information needed to verify purchases. Apple handles that information under its own privacy terms.
  • Website hosting provider: may process basic request and security logs when you visit this website.

RevenueCat may use subprocessors to operate its service and may process information in the United States and other countries. We do not sell or rent personal information, share it with data brokers, or disclose it for cross-context behavioral advertising. RevenueCat does not inherently use purchase history to track users across other companies’ apps for advertising.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect rights and safety, or as part of a business transfer, but only to the extent that we possess the information. We do not have access to your recordings, recording names, wake promises, or alarm details.

5. Your choices and privacy rights

You can choose not to make an in-app purchase. If you do, the information described above must be processed to complete and maintain that purchase. You can manage or cancel an Apple subscription through your App Store account.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, deletion of, or a copy of your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. We use purchase information as needed to perform our agreement with you, provide the requested features, protect against fraud, comply with law, and pursue our legitimate interest in operating and improving the purchase service.

To make a privacy request, contact us using the details below. Because RevenueCat records are associated with an anonymous app user identifier, we may ask you to provide that identifier so we can locate the correct record. We will not ask you to send a purchase receipt containing more information than is reasonably necessary. You may also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

6. Retention and deletion

Your recordings, promises, and preferences remain on your device until you delete them in the app, clear the app’s data, or uninstall the app. Deleting a recording in Promise removes that local recording, subject to normal device storage behavior and backups controlled by your operating system.

Purchase and subscription records are retained by Apple and RevenueCat as needed to provide entitlements, maintain transaction records, prevent fraud, resolve disputes, and comply with legal obligations. Their backup and legal-retention periods may continue after you uninstall Promise or submit a deletion request. Contact us if you want us to request deletion of data RevenueCat processes on our behalf; some transaction records may need to be retained by Apple or RevenueCat where law permits or requires it.

7. Security

Promise reduces privacy risk by keeping your personal app content on your device and limiting external processing to purchase-related information. Access to locally stored information is subject to the security of your device and operating system. RevenueCat states that it uses technical and organizational safeguards for information it processes. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we recommend using your device passcode and keeping your operating system current.

8. Children’s privacy

Promise is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Promise does not require an account, and recordings and alarm content remain on the device. A purchase made through a child’s device or family account may still create the limited App Store and RevenueCat records described above. If you believe we have processed a child’s information, please contact us so we can address it.

9. International users

Core app content remains on the device. RevenueCat and its subprocessors may process purchase-related information in the United States and other countries whose data protection laws may differ from those where you live. RevenueCat offers contractual safeguards for certain international transfers. If you contact us by email, your email provider and ours may also process your message in the countries where they operate.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when Promise’s features, service providers, or legal obligations change. We will post the revised policy here and change the effective date above. If a change materially affects how the app handles your information, we will provide an appropriate notice.
